My ex-boyfriend was majorly afraid to kiss me. That was fine with me, though. I'm too much of a prude to have WANTED to kiss him.

I was watching the news yesterday, and apparently someone has created a cloning machine. It takes like an hour to kickstart the cell division. I think it's SO wrong, because apparently they've already been cloning babies. SO wrong.

Cloning is technology, all technology is neutral. It's how technology is used that makes it bad or wrong.

In this case, WHETHER or not it is used.

No, that's not true. Cloning could be used for things like increasing food and helping to lessen world hunger. It could be greatly beneficial to transplants, people wouldn't have to die waiting on that heart or liver or whatever. And people seem to get this notion into their head that the organ will come from another living human being, it wouldn't have to be that way, it could just be your liver, sitting on ice. We could learn so much more about the brain and how it works, and even more about the complexities of DNA if we could use cloning to create test matter, instead of having to work with already dead examples.

Okay, I stand corrected.

But I was really talking about cloning humans. Not just organs or plants.

It still would be cloning us, it just wouldn't be fully cloning. People have this irrational idea of cloning like it is in sci-fi books and movies, it's not like that. For starters, it's not some press a button and poof! out comes a clone, it's a painstaking and long process of dozens of scientific things I couldn't possibly understand without years and years of research and study. But I do know cloning is when you create DNA, without using reproduction. Making an organ, a plant, an animal, whatever, is still cloning. You're viewing it with bad misconceptions, as most people do. You're cloning a human if you clone a human liver. There's no distinction there, it's the same thing, only a smaller process.

I have done some research on cloning. Not enough to know exactly how to go about it, but enough to understand the general principles.

The thing I am mainly concerned with as far as cloning goes is what I've been seeing on the news, lately-- the rumors that some crazy people have started cloning babies. When you clone a human person, there's no reproduction involved, but you still need a surrogate mother to birth the child. So really, if there were underground human cloning experiments going on, it could be done pretty inconspicuously. What you end up with is someone with the exact same genetic makeup as whomever it was you cloned. Sort of an identical twin, only years younger.

The moral problem I have with this is that the cloning is totally unnatural. I have spiritual problems with that. I can't really put my thoughts into words at the moment. Let me do some more thinking on it.
