Favorite Fictional Character ( all media)

Post by jubalsquirrelly » Fri Jun 21, 20:12 2013

Who/what is your favorite fictional character ever?

Mine is Big Boss from the Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid games.

He is just so tragic!

His whole story and the epic events that surround him contrast with with his own deep personal pain.

Just when he begins to find peace the world kicks him in the teeth and we witness a bright light grow dark, the broken egoist.

Driven by the forces around him to the most radical extremes in order to scrape out just the tiniest shred of peace for his mind.

I can not conceive of another character that conveys such a strong sense of the sublime.

You shoud read The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.

There are too many awesome characters in too many different books for me to have favorite. But sticking to video games I would say my favorite is Lara Croft, she's rich, she's cool headed, she's badass and Angelina played her in the movies.

I have to chose just one? Well, shit.

I think I'll go with my default answer of Harry Dresden; He's hot, smart and principled. Oh and the magic is a nice side effect too.

You can have more than one I suppose.

I'll also pick Hugh Darrow from Deux Ex Human revolution and Alan Wake from Alan Wake.

I'm not sure if I have only one, but Jodi Foster's character in Contact (the film), is up there, for me. :)
In this film her character is brave, determined and unwavering in her vision. Very fierce, in my opinion.

That is a good question.

In books it might well be Susan Calvin in Asimov's robot short stories. She's clever and focused on work. Or it's a tie between Mara Jade and Grand Admiral Thrawn from Timothy Zahn's first trilogy of extended Star Wars universe books.
Indiana Jones in film. No contest there; I wanted to be an archaeologist because of him. I'm not, but my imaginative life is still better for having him.
In TV, it's Captain Picard. In games, it's perhaps Elaine Marley.

One?! That's asking a lot of us! :P Hmmmm...I guess I'd pick Toph from ATLA.

Hedgehog. While he's way past cool and I may have invented Sonic levels when I was younger, he's still a little lower on the list.

Just recently got finished with Black Lagoon, its actually the first anime I could say I liked.

Balilika scares me *sob sob*.

Then again all the women on the show kinda scare me. (minus Yokimo and Jane)

Oh god, pick a character?

Can I list?

My main character would have to be John Preston from Equilibrium. The emotion he shows is tremendous, I've seen the film 11 times. He is fierce as well as human, and very professional in what he does, which makes him badass for me. He's a very well-developed character, very believable and provides an amazing case. I can't help but feel strongly emotionally attached to his character.

There is Fix-It Felix who I find to be adorable and really grows as the film progresses. I love his hair and he looks like he'd really be your friend. Vanellope I didn't think much of at first, but she has a lot of qualities and faces up to problems despite having so much against her. She doesn't let any obstacles bar her from anything, not even her aspirations. She's extremely relatable, and while she can be outspoken, it makes her a truthful, wonderful person.

If it was TV, it would have to be Sherlock. Benedict Cumberbatch is fantastic as the detective, who manages to balance his qualities without making him a more likable or unlikable person. Sherlock is very flawed, but he has humour and pathos as well. Sometimes his outward expression of emotion (particularly the scene where he is in the house where Moriarty claims to be Richard Brooks - or could he? - and he shouts at him) is just so perfectly done.
Without control, without restraint, emotion is chaos.

I'd like to hear your tastes. We all have our own favourite fictional character(s).

Being with Fix-It Felix must be so friendly! He just sounds so polite, a real improvement on what I felt he was like at the beginning of the film.

Well, if he tries to, it will always seal back up. Anything he tries to open or break just gets fixed again!
