need more hobbies for the hobby quiz

Post by spacefem » Wed Aug 14, 7:43 2013

One of the more popular quizzes here at the website is the "find a hobby" quiz - I mean you all know that spacefem it basically just visited by trolls and incredibly bored people, right? The trolls join the forum, the bored people take the quizzes.

Anyway I'd like to spice up the hobby quiz by adding more random hobbies. There are currently 25 potential suggestions, among the favorites are things like:

Playing spoons
Mud sculpture
Automotive repair
Juggling
Knitting
Staple art
Baking
Eraser carving
Radical activism
Memorizing Pi

Anyway I'd love to collect suggestions for more. They can be serious, they can be awful. I'd like them to be not too expensive... based on comments I think most people who take the quiz are like 15 years old and probably don't have the resources for a hobby like "world travel" or "shark fishing" (not even sure if that one is legal). And although knitting and baking are in there, I like the hobbies to be a little more random and unknown... still easy to get into, but not stuff you think about every day.

So how about it? Who's got ideas for me to help the bored people of the world through silly quiz results?

Not knowing the exact list of hobbies, these might be some repeats. (I got the prompt "Learning Quotes.")

Paper art (or origami)
Book art (transforming books into projects or altered texts)
Pencil whittling (I, uh, did a lot of this in classes)
Miniature painting
Project Euler problems
Food/venue/media reviewer
Playing cups (partner just learned how to do this)
Bookbinding
Candymaking
Imaginary language translation (Tik Tok in Quenya?)
Board game designer

Crosswords
memorizing e (and surely there are other long constants besides pi and e, as well?)
bridge
sonnets (and other poetry. Why stop at haikus?)
learning famous monologues
diva imitation
duct tape art/creations

So far not too many outdoorsy hobbies, so:
Raising chickens (I've never done it, but I think for a small number of chicks it's not too hard/expensive to start)
Gardening
Metal detector treasure hunting
Dumpster diving
Geocaching (can be done with any GPS, not just the fancy hiking ones)
Tree climbing
Treehouse building

Underwater basket weaving
Computer programming
Hula hooping
Interpretive dance
Songwriting
Political canvassing
Beer brewing (maybe not for 15 year olds)
Making paper airplanes
Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free
Dizzy with possibility

^ If not brewing beer, they could make soda, ice cream, or be a soft drink mixologist.

I'm gonna have to say this is my favorite suggestion so far.

there are already comments on the quiz along the lines of "I'm a 16-year-old boy, why did you tell me to KNIT?!" I can only imagine what the reaction will be when we tell him to work on his diva imitations.

The collection, performance and recording of traditional Folk Ballads
High quality Coffee Brewing
Homebrewing of Beer, Wine, Mead, Cider, Perry, et cetera
Playwrighting
Bookwrighting
Canning
Fencing
Martial Arts
Independent Game Development
Baking
List making

That's as much as I can think of at the moment. I keep trying to think and then see a box of brown sugar on the shelf and then all I can think of is "Brown Sugar" and how it isn't a hobby.
