classes of old forum members

Post by spacefem » Mon Aug 31, 18:31 2015

Spacebot's recognition of some 13 year anniversaries made me wonder just who around here was getting old. Quite a few of us, it seems! So to experiment I made our user stats page (http://spacefem.com/forumstats/ustats.php) sortable - so I could sort active members by membership year. It showed some interesting trends.

The forum started late in 2002 and there are still four of us around. 2003-2005 were big years that I remember us being overwhelmed by spastic preteens from neopets but they grew up. Then things slowed down... there is nobody around from 2006 or 2008. Then in 2012 things started picking up again, probably due to our placement in the world of feminist forums or feminism or something, 2012 was our first "up" year in a while (as in - more posts in 2012 than the years previous). 2013 and 2014 were pretty good. 2015 is too early to tell.

What about it spacefemmers, what do you have in common with your "membership class"?

Spastic neopets preteen to the extreme. Well, I was 13 when I made an account, but close enough. This is a decade later.

Holy shit, I had no idea I was one of only four people who have been there since the first year. I still feel like you guys have been here so much longer than me, somehow.

I don't post anymore really, but I lurk. I think I was in 2001 or 2002. I was in middle school living with an abusive parent and now I'm a married college graduate who has no parental contact. So, lots changed.

KELSA!!

My neopets should be dead by now but that's not how that site works. So they'll be sad and hungry until the end of time.

I think they slate your account for freezing if you're inactive for more than 4 years. I kept mine alive through occasional returns to play the Flash games. I think I have now quit forever, not because I grew too old for such things, but because I defected last year to a newer shinier less-insanely-corporate petsite. Also I think NP's administration finally ate itself and imploded recently, like they got acquired by someone else who fired most of the team. There was an incident a few months ago wherein the new people installed a new profanity filter, then I guess they went to sleep without realizing it didn't work. So for one full night, there was no profanity filter on Neopets.

My impression is that all of the people who joined in the Dark Ages and stuck around were adults. I think we could sense the incipient age shift of all the teen-aged members and fit in that way.

I heard about this incident, so went to check if my account was still there. No dice :(

Yeah, I found this place via the blobs. So glad I checked it out, here I am over 10 years later. I don't think I've ever been particularly active, but I'm still here.

Class of 04! Sweet :)

I never really realised that my "classmates" joined same time as me. I always thought they were so much wiser....

I was an adult when I joined in 2012, but I lurked long before that as a spastic neopets preteen/early teen, so...make of that what you will.

You know, I don't remember how I found spacefem.

I do remember I was pregnant when I joined, so I'm going to blame the baby for killing my brain cells.

Knowing him as a four year old, it seems like a reasonable excuse. The little bastard. (Said with love, of course.)

I'm surprised there are only four of the 2002 posters here... I thought some other posters had been here that long.

Sad to think of those who have fallen by the wayside over the years; hopefully they are off enjoying their lives :)

I was 13 when I joined, which was half as old as I am now. I have been on this forum for half of my life!

this isn't immaturity olympics because if it was, I would win. It's why as a full adult I seemed to get along with a bunch of teenagers. By the way, I am very glad you all are growed up now.
