No, but I have a string of Mardi Gras beads that Sean Astin/Mikey/Rudy/Samwise Gamgee threw at me from a balcony on Bourbon Street.

I was strolling down Bourbon Street the Saturday before Mardi Gras a looooong time ago and looked up and recognized him and completely spazzed out. So people around me looked up to see what I was spazzing out about and noticed too and started fawning along with me. Rudy must've been amused at the whole ordeal, because he smiled and threw a long string of bright pink beads at me from a bunch he was holding. But I'm 5'1" and the street was crowded, and a ginormous arm came out of one side and snatched my beads before I could grab them. Sadness. But then Sean Astin looked at the guy who had the beads, shook his finger, pointed to the guy/beads, then to me.... and the dude handed me the beads. :b3: True story.

Wow, that was cinematic. Like to the point of imagining Sean throwing the beads, which float through the air in slow motion.

I'm distantly related to William Jennings Bryan. He was a second or third cousin of my grandfather?

My partner's distantly related to Jane Fonda. This means two things - not close enough to ever hang out with her (again, at least third cousin once removed), and we can't watch Barbarella together.

My adoptive mom is the direct descendant of Capt. Thomas Wiggin, the first governor of Dover Plantation, which later became part of what we now know as New Hampshire, does that count? The family tree reads like a who's who of colonial politics. We even have the uniform that one of her ancestors wore in the Revolutionary War. Somewhat embarrassingly, however, it's red.

My last name is an anglicized version of a city in Serbia Novi Sad. I have gotten stopped by people from that area of the world telling me what a beautiful city it is.
I don't know my family's relation to it though.

And my dad has mentioned we're probably related to Louis Riel since "Everyone is inbred out there" so... Yay?

Yeah not related to anyone. Though I guess my husband's great uncle worked with Manhattan project people. He didn't work on the project though, I think he had great relief about that, given the ethics of that whole thing.

No, no one I know of. I've met a couple of vaguely famous people because they were related to people I knew though. A two hit wonder minor Canadian rock star was randomly at a friend's wedding, turns out he was my friend's cousin. In high school I was a fan but when I made the mistake of telling my friend that she brought him over. It was super awkward.

Ugh, I'm tired of my signature.

Family lore says I am, but I don't believe it. Unless 10 minutes of fame counts, then my grandfather was famous.

Not really. There's a famous poet with the same last name, but nothing to indicate that we're related.
Bork is too lazy to bother thinking up a witty signature. :polarbear:

That WOULD be rad. Although it actually now occurs to me that even if the poet guy was related to the family I wouldn't be related to him still due to adoption in the family. :P

Your popcorn is probably stale by now. My grandfather was featured in a magazine for saving someone's life. He worked in a steel mill as a safety inspector. He insisted on a rip cord that was used shortly after it was installed to stop a conveyor belt heading to the furnace while a worker was stuck on it.

Sergeant York. Not really famous, I guess, but that's as close as I get.

If infamous relatives count, I'm also related to spacebot.

:O Sergeant York is one of my favorite heroes. Like, seriously. It helps that he's from my state, so we grew up learning about him.
