I want to be Mechanical Engineer and.....

Post by Crystal Blue » Wed Jun 21, 14:26 2017

Hi,
From early childhood, I wished to be an engineer. I always wanted to 'build' stuffs and create new solutions. I like to see innovations all around.
I have interests in mechanical engineering. But knowing that we are witnessing the 'information revolution', how can a mechanical engineer contribute to this revolution?
'Information revolution' has put electronic systems, large databases, machine learning, networking, etc into mainstream. What significant contributions can a Mechanical Engineer do for it?

I know this question can be weird, but honestly I am just looking for some innovative ideas.Lastly I believe that engineering is filled with incredible connections across ideas, eg. eagles' wings inspired winglets in planes.

I think there's all kinds of things. You might look into "systems engineering". It's a more broad picture/multidisciplinary look at all things involved in a system.

What you're talking about sounds a bit like systems engineering, industrial engineering, or even computer engineering.

Do you know any engineers, or ways to contact people in the kinds of fields you're interested in? Asking them some questions about what they do might help.

There are mechanical engineers who do exactly the kind of stuff you're talking about. You might want to look into the different subfields.

Hi there Crystal Blue, welcome to the spacefem forums! Please make sure you read the Guide to New and Returning Members and the FAQ.

Do you have a SWE (Society of Women Engineers) near you? I'm sure they could help with answering questions in that field.

Would you also like to introduce yourself?
Ugh, I'm tired of my signature.

Thanks guys!
Well, I'm a (totally) new user here and anywhere on WWW. I am a student and currently enjoying my vacations.
I love designing cars and looking for ways to improve things.
I registered on this site to gain and share my knowledge and my non-knowledges.
Well friends how do you put those little quotes below your posts?

If you go up to the right hand side of the page where your username is, you can edit your profile and put in a sig.

Or if you mean quoting people that's the little quote button on their post.

also shrimps are neat

Hello,

This is really very interesting question. Becoming a mechanical engineer can be very rewarding. I agree with Sonic, to know how can a mechanical engineer contribute to this revolution? , you should ask your friends or relative who are in this field & who are experienced. They may help you.
