17. Had a lot of freedom to explore and make mistakes. Had a lot of fun and also learned a lot as well.

To study? The medieval period, especially the parts between about 1100 and 1500. There are so many strands of concepts people consider integral today (race, gender, sexuality, economics, colonialism, nationalism, self-actualization) that have their beginnings and predecessors in this period. I find it interesting to study these ideas in a time before they've really taken root, as that helps me think through how they exist and determine behaviors today. At the very least, it's refreshing to know that dividing people into races and presupposing some biological basis for it is not an inevitable cultural process but a deliberate choice by Enlightenment-era scientists and policymakers.

Personal age? So far, 26, but I feel like I'll have other favorite ages before I'm done.
